Galveston City News is an independent local media publication dedicated to the people, businesses, events, history, culture, and stories of Galveston Island.
Our focus is simple: tell great local stories.
Through interviews, original reporting, video, podcasts, and social media, Galveston City News introduces you to the business owners, entrepreneurs, chefs, artists, community leaders, historians, characters, and everyday people who make Galveston what it is.
We love Galveston’s extraordinary history—but we’re equally interested in the history being made right now.
Meet the Publisher
Jake Syreini is the founder and publisher of Galveston City News.
Jake has spent more than 20 years working in sales, marketing, entrepreneurship, digital media, and business development. His career has included work alongside the organizations and brands of Tony Robbins and Dean Graziosi, where he gained firsthand experience in digital marketing, audience building, and online media.
Before launching Galveston City News, Jake also helped create EscanabaNow.com, a hyperlocal digital platform in Escanaba, Michigan—an experience that helped shape his vision for a modern, community-focused local publication.
Jake has also built his own audience online, with more than 50,000 combined followers across Instagram and TikTok. You can follow him personally on Instagram at @realjakejames.
After discovering Galveston, Jake quickly became fascinated by the island—not only its beaches, architecture, and remarkable history, but especially the people behind its stories.
That fascination became Galveston City News.
